  1. Papaw loved sitting in his garage and listening to music. I was hanging out with him one day, and a very mean bee landed in my hair. Of course, I freaked out. Papaw tried to calm me down, but I was hysterical. And that mean bee stung me. Papaw saved the day with his rusty pliers, removed the stinger, and gave me a bandaid. I still have a scar from the incident…probably because of the rusty pliers

  2. When I first met Neil in 1992 he was in the the “dog house”. Which is what he always called his place out in the garage. I can’t even imagine how many hours we sat out there talking about his days at Modern Iron, Duggins, BPS plus so many of his misadventures. While Ruth would have something delicious cooked up for us. I sure miss those days.

  3. Well I’m definitely daddy’s little pumpkin. I never did anything wrong LOL. Until one day I decided to sneak out and go roll a house. Daddy was at Garland Scout Ranch with Tim who was in boy scouts. Well daddy had a feeling his perfect little pumpkin was up to no good so he drove all the way back home in the middle of the night to catch me. All I remember is hearing the familiar voice saying “HOLD IT”. Needless to say daddy’s little pumpkin was in trouble and the next day I was knocking on a stranger’s door to explain to them that my friends and I had rolled their house and that I was there to clean it up.

  4. Neil and Ruth have been our friends for so many years. There was not a sweeter couple. We spent long hours on our front porch drinking coffee and solving the problems of the whole world. We r going to miss our dear friend Neil.

  6. It has just been the last 10 years or so that he has been “Neil” for me. So many memories in our childhood, especially all those roads we made on the bank in front of our house: but he will always be “Scroochie”.

      1. I do not know how he got it unless Uncle “C” and Aunt Amy called him that as a baby. He was a couple years younger than me and that is all everyone called him that I can remember. Maybe another cuz will shed some light on it.

  10. I’m sure it’s been mentioned here before, but Pawpaw always wanted a hug. Everytime I would come over, the first thing to do was hug his neck. He would remind me if I had forgotten haha. For, as long as I can remember I am a hugger and it’s thanks to Pawpaw. He was a very consistent man from what I remember. Pretty much always wearing overalls and watching the same western shows. I remember when I was younger I was excited to start a fire with him during the winter. I was fascinated as a kid for some reason with fire and would love to watch the fire with him. He was a great pawpaw and I’ll miss him dearly.
